Leh-Kargil-Srinagar

Sorry to post the sequel late….Was going horribly busy because of exams.
Still….the Ladakh journey continues………

Day 15
Leh-Kargil
Total Distance covered-250km

Now I had 3 people along with me….
1.Amish,the crazy guy
2.Dev,the singapore guy
3.Manish,a local,Dev’s guide with his thunderbird

It was Amish’s idea to reach Kargil via Dah-Batalik.I got permits for all,the past day and we were off at 9.30am.
There was hardly any traffic after we crossed Leh airport and the road looked nice.Sometime later I saw Amish with some people, and further I realized all were chicks. It was magnetic hill,Manish and Dev had left and it was Amish there, and the girls were trying out on his bike.I also tried out the gravity thing,n yeah,it really worked.Amish was still playing with the colored cards.I just gave him a look which was enough to explain,”Enough man,let them go…!!” But he said you go ahead,i’ll catch up.

This is were all the fuckup happened.I went on further and saw Manish and Dev at Nimmu having chai.I also parked my bike such that Amish could see it.About 15 minutes later,Amish passed, and the Scorpio with the girls stopped in the same hotel. It was Amish who had the permit since I had given him the originals for making extra copies. Manish and I started and couldnt see Amish untill we reached Khatse from where the route to Batalik splits. We went to the checkpost to check whether he has reported or not.He hadn’t.Now the police wala there wasn’t allowing us to go further without permit. But Manish knew the people there and he settled the matter there. We never saw Amish waiting for us anywhere,Why would he?For him,we were leading and he was making it faster to chase us.And we were not knowing whether we are chasing or following him.We also tried his cell but it wasn’t reachable.

So we asked the people who were passing us that whether they had seen any red eliminator sometime ago.But no one from the 12-15 people we asked ever answered positively. We were worried because he had the permits and he had not reported at the main junction.Still we moved on with every responsibility on Manish. We didn’t get any problem further and it was in the eve at a check post in Batalik we saw our permits and the policeman said that the other guy passed through some 2-3 hours earlier. So now we were carefree about Amish.

The night at Kargil was the worst. The smell, atmosphere, people in the town made a very bad impact on my mind and I hated it.People with long beard and long black kurtas.Everybody used to stare at us seeing our backpacks n all/I just desired to leave as early as possible in the morning.

DAY 16
Kargil-Shrinagar
Total Distance covered- 220km

It was 8am in the clock and we were on road. All because of Manish who kicked us up early. We didn’t even have tea or breakfast but left for Drass. We were nicely welcomed by the Kashmir valley.But.nothing much to click and say about that road, atleast after seeing Ladakh,I never took pains to get the camera out of my jacket at any point except some of these…..

The ambience at Zojila Pass was breath taking. The point we pass the Z-top,the sight of the valley is so shocking….
At the top,a convoy was driving down and some traffic jam halted the traffic. We were stopped at the checkpost till the traffic clears up and later we moved on….

Now to cross the convoys is a very tedious and boring job.It took almost 30 mins to cross some 20 truck convoy and I was fully covered by the dust sprayed by the trucks.Mean while I saw Manish and dev falling off their bike at a spot where the PWD workers were filling a pond on the road with huge rocks. It was all because of the wet mud.Though I crossed it very easily.

A few km after Zojila,a fantastic roads started on which I had no competitor. It was after Rohtang that my bike was behaving in quite a normal way because of plenty of O2.At Sonmarg,we had some lunch after which the next stop was Shrinagar at 3pm or so…..

Now the Shrinagar story is too long with lots of snaps, will post it soon
